Renewable energy refers to the type of energy derived from imperishable resources of nature. As the name signifies, it is inexhaustible, which is not so with exhaustible types, like fossil fuels. Examples of potential sources of renewable power include biomass, solar, wind, geothermal, and water. Despite the various inexhaustible power advantages, its usage is limited to a certain extent. The main reason being costly machinery and need for expert people in the relative field.
By the year 2008, seven percent of the total energy supply in the United States was contributed by inexhaustible sources. No doubt, the use of sustainable energy has increased significantly in the last few decades. However, there is still a need for optimizing the application of natural processes for obtaining efficient power. It is expected that the overall use of inexhaustible resources will speed up in the coming 30 years.

The initial configuration and machine setup for obtaining renewable energy is costly. Consider it for long-term use, and you will find them less expensive than fossil fuels. They operate by means of natural processes (water flow, wind, sunlight, etc.) that do not require external feeding of fuels. Consequently, minimal maintenance is sufficient for efficient working of the power plants.
Speaking about renewable power disadvantages, there are just a few of them. The main concern is non-availability under certain conditions. Say for example; a calm day minimizes wind power, cloudy day reduces generation of solar power, and prolonged dry spells cut off hydro power. These are some of the circumstances that highly affects the production of sustainable power. In most of the cases, power plants and resources are built up in remote areas.
On a concluding note, sustainable energy pros, outweigh its drawbacks. The point is, it causes negligible environmental pollution in comparison to exhaustible fuels, while ensuring a continuous power supply at a low cost. Practically, it is the only solution for solving the energy crisis, which is the main issue in today's day and age. Hence, it is high time that we should switch on to natural resources as quickly as possible.
